Highlights

  • Temperatures are generally warmer than the long-term average across most parts of Ethiopia, especially in the northeastern lowlands and parts of the central highlands.
  • Rainfall performance is generally near normal in many areas, including the northern half, central, eastern, and southwestern parts of the country.
  • The Bega and Belg seasons have recorded normal to above-normal rainfall in several areas, while the Kiremt season shows normal to below-normal rainfall in the northeast, east, and central parts.
  • El Niño and a positive Indian Ocean Dipole are influencing rainfall distribution and temperature conditions during the year.
  • Heavy rainfall, flooding, thunderstorms, strong winds, and high temperatures are being observed in different parts of the country, with impacts on communities, infrastructure, settlements, and farmlands.
