In the coming Belg 2026 season (February to May), climate outlook indicate a good rainfall pattern in most of the Belg Benefiting catchments. For instance, Genale Dawa and environs are expected to receive above-normal rains, while Rift Valley will remain below or near normal. Generally, near-normal to above-normal rains are expected across most of the Wabi shebelle, Awash Afar Denakil, Omo Gibe, Baro Akobo, as well as Upper and Middle Abay basins. The above rainfall are expected to greatly impact both surface and groundwater resources in all Belg Benefiting catchments across the basin.
