Monthly Agromet Bulletin Jun 2026
Overall, during June, particularly over the southwestern, western, northwestern, and central Meher crop-producing areas of the country, moisture conditions showed gradual expansion and improvement in both amount and distribution, resulting in favorable and widespread moisture coverage. In connection with this, the moisture created favorable conditions for timely sowing and land preparation in areas where planting activities normally begin in June. It also played a significant role in meeting the water requirements of Belg crops that were planted late and are currently at different growth stages. Moreover, the moisture made a substantial contribution to the continued proper growth of long-cycle Meher crops, such as maize and sorghum, which were planted earlier starting from April. On the other hand, heavy rainfall recorded in some areas, particularly in the western parts of the country, increased soil moisture content. However, it did not cause significant adverse impacts on agricultural activities. Conversely, although moisture availability remained limited in the eastern pastoral and agro-pastoral areas, it still contributed positively to pasture regeneration and the availability of drinking water.
