In the upcoming second dekad of July 2025, meteorological forecasts indicate that rainfall activity is expected to continue with favorable amount and distribution across the Kiremt rainfall-benefiting areas of the country. This situation will support ongoing Meher agricultural activities, which are at various phenological stages with differing crop water requirements such as the water needs of both short- and long-cycle Meher crops, as well as fruit, vegetables, perennial plants, and the availability of pasture and drinking water in the eastern and northeastern pastoral and agro-pastoral regions. However, the anticipated continuous and high moisture conditions may negatively affect the normal growth and development of crops, particularly in areas typically prone to excessive moisture. These conditions could also lead to flash floods and waterlogging in low-lying crop fields. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to mitigate risks in areas lacking proper drainage systems, including the construction of channels to manage excess water. Moreover, persistent and widespread rainfall in some areas may create favorable conditions for weed infestation, which tends to become aggressive under excessive moisture. As such, timely and effective weed management is essential to minimize the potential negative impacts of the anticipated wet conditions.
