Ethio-Finland Meteorological Infrastructure project

Ethio-Finland Meteorological Infrastructure project

The Ethio-Finland meteorological infrastructure project, a collaboration between Vaisala, the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), and the Ethiopia Meteorological Institute (EMI) in Ethiopia, started in the third quarter of 2021. This €13 million (about US$15 million) project aims to modernize Ethiopia's weather and climate observation and forecasting systems over a span of three years, followed by a three-year maintenance and support period.

Funded through the Finnish Public Sector Investment Facility (PIF), the project focuses on enhancing Ethiopia's resilience to climate change by improving weather measurement and forecast capabilities. This is the first PIF project to reach the agreement stage and aims to provide essential weather-related services across various sectors of Ethiopian society.
