January 2023 Climate Bulletin

Monthly Climatic

During January 2023, days were remained hot over several portions of the country for instance Afar, Ethiopian Somali, and Western Amhara. In particular, the extreme maximum temperature values were as high as 45.0, 41.8, 41.0, 40.8 and 40.2oc over Abobo, Fugnuido, Gode, Gambela and Metema respectively. During January 2023, the monthly rainfall amount exceeded 15mm over most parts of SNNPR and some Western part of Oromia and Amara. In particular, the monthly total rainfall values of January 2023 were as high as 30mm over Tepi, Awash Arba, Chira, Jinka, Dembidolo and Adet. Besides, the daily rainfall values over Awash Arba, Adet and Konso were as high as 21.5, 20.0 and 18.4 mm respectively. In general, the monthly total rainfall amount of January 2023 was below normal over much areas of the country except over western and north western tips of the country. January 2023 was generally wetter than January 2022 over much of the country except over some portion of Northwestern of the country, southern part of Amhara and some place of Northern Oromia.
