Positive SST dominated the tropical Pacific Ocean during the preceding two months. As a result, Somali, pocket areas of eastern section of SNNPR, and western Oromiya, most parts of Tigray and western Amhara including northern parts of Benshangul-Gumuz had normal to above normal rainfall activity. The remaining parts of the country were dominated by dry and below normal rainfall activity.

In the upcoming two months, the rain more or less will continue to prevail across the Belg-growing areas of the country. Moreover, heavy falls is likely to occur over few places. On the other hand, with approach of the kiremt rain in the month of May, western half of the country is likely to experience better rainfall distribution. In general, considering the current and projected positive SST of the tropical Pacific Ocean, near-normal rainfall activity is anticipated during the two remaining months.
