Seasonal Hydro-meteorlogical Print PDF

The seasonal aridity index of Bega indicated that most parts of GenaleDawa, middle Wabishebele, eastern BaroAkobo, south western Abay, middle and lower OmoGibe and Rift Valley catchments were received the better amount of rainfall through this the wet to humid condition observed over those catchments. The rest catchments were experienced dry to semi dry condition. In general the moisture performances of Bega 2015/16 over western, south western, southern and south eastern catchments were performed wet to humid condition and contributed for availability of water over those catchments. In addition to this mild flood occurrence were observed across lower catchments of Wabishebele and OmoGibe during October and November.

The coming Belg season in most of Belg rainfall benefiting catchments will expect to be wet to humid condition especially along the divide of each upper catchment. Reservoirs and dams such as Gilgel Gibe1, Fincha, Koka and Wabishebele have a better chance to compensate the loss of water due to evaporation because of wet condition and cloud coverage in the surrounding catchments. Though, it should be noted that Belg rain has small contribution for surface runoff. Warm and long dry spell condition occurred during Belg season in most parts of middle and lower catchments because of this awareness is important to protected unwise use of water resource.
