Bega 2018-19

Seasonal Hydro-meteorlogical Print PDF

In the coming Belg2019 season the moisture performance over most Belg benefiting catchments will gradually improve after end of March. The South, south western, Central and Eastern catchments expected to have normal to above normal amount of rainfall and the rest of North and North Eastern catchments will have normal tending to below normal rainfall. Increment of temperature will be expected in Belg months over most of the basins. According to the occurrence of high temperature and long dry spells, the situation expected to aggravate loss of water due to evaporation. During April and May months the rainfall activity will benefit GilgelGige_1 and MelkaWakena Dams and reservoirs, moreover, availability of water along most of OmoGibe, BaroAkobo, Wabiahebele, GanaleDawa and Rift Valley catchments. However, it should be noted that Belg rain has small contribution for surface runoff; therefore we advise to wisely use rain water. In addition to Awash catchments which face moisture stress need to be prepared to harvest rain water through different useful techniques.
